What Lenders Really Expect from Small Businesses
Personal, Commercial, and SBA Loans

When starting up or expanding your business, is getting a loan part of your financial strategy? If so, learn what information and documents financial institutions expect you to have when meeting with them.

A panel of local representatives from the Nevada Small Business Development Center (NSBDC) and area banks will offer advice and share typical worksheets to provide attendees with a better understanding of what lenders expect.

Personal Financing:

  • Understanding and preparing a personal financial statement
  • Your credit report and its importance

Commercial Financing:

  • Comparing the different types of commercial loans – Government Guaranteed, Real Estate, Working Capital, Commercial & Industrial
  • Understanding the key points of Business Financing and what you should know about your own financial position
  • Learning what lenders are looking for in an applicant and their business

SBA/SBDC Financing:

  • Determining your total startup or “project” financing
  • Determining the right amount for your loan request
  • Creating a business plan for a loan application
  • Creating projections for a loan application


Jake Carrico is a Business Development Adviser with the NevadaSBDC in Reno, Nevada. In this role, Jake assists small businesses with their Financing, Business Planning, and Marketing needs.

Nina Hallock is a Lending Manager at Great Basin Federal Credit Union in Reno, Nevada.

Mike Hix is a Commercial Loan Officer at Plumas Bank in Reno, Nevada.
