What’s the Law? The Basics of Employment Law

August 8, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Are you ready to go from owner-operator to job creator? This class will cover the basic information every business owner should know when hiring their first employees or contractors, including:

  • The difference between employees and independent contractors (and why it matters);
  • State and federal labor laws relevant to small businesses; and
  • Best practices to help you stay out of trouble.

Our goal is to provide attendees with an overview of employment laws and requirements relevant to Nevada businesses with 1-10 employees or contractors. This class is not a substitute for legal counsel, and the presenter will not provide individual legal advice. If you need help with a specific employment issue, or you have questions about your particular circumstances, you should contact a licensed attorney for assistance.

This seminar is presented by Nevada Legal Services in partnership with the Nevada SBDC. Through its Community Development Program, Nevada Legal Services provides free transactional legal assistance to qualifying entrepreneurs, small businesses, and non-profit organizations all over Nevada.

This event will be held at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, back building, classroom D. Because it is offered in the evening, please park in the front lot and as you face the building, walk to the left side of the building through the gate, to the back building for your classroom. Address is listed below.
