Greg Zrinyi knew he was meant to be a business owner. Living in Las Vegas and, later, moving to Reno, his original plan was to open a bar and restaurant. With the economy beginning to slide, loans to open restaurants were not readily available.

“First thing I did was made an appointment with Rod Jorgensen at the Nevada Small Business Development Center,” said Zrinyi. “He helped me discover what Reno was looking for in a business.”

He found that the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory franchise was a perfect fit for his needs and goals. In order to get started, he had to write his business plan.

“My business plan was over 100 pages and included extensive financials,” he said. “Rod guided me in writing the business plan and provided information on selecting a location.” The Nevada Small Business Development Center (Nevada SBDC) can help new or expanding businesses find the right location by researching household incomes, surrounding businesses, and traffic patterns in a specific area.

Greg Zrinyi recommends that everyone take the business classes offered by the Nevada SBDC and SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives). He also encourages everyone visit the Nevada SBDC website (www.nevadasbdc.org) to discover what resources are available.

“We recommend anybody and everybody to the Nevada SBDC.”

The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory located in northwest Reno, endeavors to be part of the Reno community. He frequently works with McQueen High School and participates in many community events.

“We are a Reno product, not just a face to a franchise. We contribute to Reno’s community and embrace what Reno has to offer.”

Additionally, sixty percent of the treats available are made fresh at the store, which means that by supporting the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory you are supporting a locally owned and operated business.

With help from the Nevada SBDC, Greg Zyrini was able to make his entrepreneurial dreams a reality and contribute sweetly to all that Reno has to offer.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory can be found at local Reno events, the Reno Aces Ballpark, and the main location at 5100 Mae Anne Ave, #101, in Reno.
