Nevada Small Business Development Center

The Nevada SBDC is a statewide business assistance outreach program with 12 locations across Nevada.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Samuel Males, the founder and longtime State Director of the Nevada Small Business Development Center. During his 37-year tenure as Nevada SBDC Director, Males grew our statewide program through a wide variety of federal, state, and local partnerships, bringing small business advising services to the many diverse communities throughout the Silver State.

In 1985, Males wrote the original Nevada SBDC proposal to create the program within the College of Business Administration at the University of Nevada, Reno. Beginning with only 3 outreach centers, the Nevada SBDC grew to 14 outreach centers and expanded SBDC services to include environmental and safety programs, technology development programs (SBIR), geographic information system services, disadvantaged business enterprise program, and the Center for Regional Studies.

In addition to his excellent statewide reputation, Males molded the Nevada SBDC into one of the premier SBDCs in the country through his national outreach. Males was elected by his peers in 1996 as President of Americas Small Business Development Centers (ASBDC). Males served as an expert witness to the Small Business Committees in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives, and served on Microsofts 13-member National Small Business Technology Council in 1997.

Sam will be missed by the many who knew him and those whom he had an impact upon.
